Basic Firefighting & Prevention (Seafish)

This 1-day basic safety training course is mandatory for all commercial fishermen.

Introduction

This one-day course provides basic knowledge of fire prevention and fire-fighting at sea.

The course is Seafish approved and is one of the basic safety training courses that are required by all commercial fishermen. It is also meets the training requirements for crew requiring fire-fighting training on small commercial workboats.

Content

Topics covered during the course include:

  • fire and the dangers it presents at sea.
  • fire prevention.
  • the principles of fire fighting at sea.
  • the use of basic fire fighting equipment to safely extinguish fires (practical exercise).

Delivery

This is a one day course delivered at the NAFC Marine Centre.

The course includes classroom work and practical exercises which include the use of fire fighting equipment to extinguish fires.

There is a short written test at the end the course.
