This course prepares students to sit the MCA's written examination papers: General Engineering Science I and II.

These papers are required to obtain the following Engineer Certificates of Competency from the MCA:

• Engineer Officer (Fishing Vessel) Class 1 CoC
• Second Engineer <3000kW Unlimited 6000kW Near Coastal CoC
• Small Vessel Engineer CoCs (for fishing boats, yachts, tugs, workboats, standby, seismic survey and oceanographic research vessels).
