Checking the health of a fish


This one-day introductory course covers a wide range of fish stock health issues, including those required for the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation (SSPO) Code of Good Practice for Scottish Finfish Aquaculture (CoGP).

It is aimed at entry-level marine and fresh water husbandry staff.

Entry Requirements

None. No prior knowledge of fish health or diseases is required.


The course covers a variety of topics, including:

  • Fish anatomy
  • Legislation
  • Diagnosis of common diseases of marine & freshwater fish
  • Treatment of diseases
  • Sampling techniques
  • Veterinary health plans
  • Biosecurity


This is a 1 day course delivered at the NAFC Marine Centre, or elsewhere by arrangement.
