Medical First Aid
This 4-day course provides training in how to provide immediate first aid in the event of an accident or medical emergency on board a ship.
It is required by those responsible for providing first aid on vessels operating within 150 miles of a safe haven and is a prerequisite for some certificates of competency.
Candidates should have completed an approved training course in Elementary First Aid within the previous five years.
The course covers a variety of both theoretical and practical topics, including:
- Casualty examination
- Drowning and asphyxia
- Cardiac arrest
- Fracture and other injuries
- Effects of heat and cold
- Burns and scalds
- Spinal injuries
- Medical advice by radio
This is a 4 day course delivered at the NAFC Marine Centre.
