Sea Lice Identification and Recording

Introduction

This half-day course is relevant to all persons working in the salmon farming industry and covers the requirements for the identification and recording of sea lice and their stages of development set out in the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation's Code of Practice for Scottish Finfish Aquaculture.

Content

The course covers a variety of topics in both classroom and practical (laboratory) sessions, including:

Classroom

  • Introduction to sea lice
  • Cost of sea lice treatments
  • Understanding sea lice life cycle and stages
  • Sea lice counting
  • Sea lice treatments
  • Understanding resistance in sea lice
  • New developments in sea lice treatments

Practical session

  • Identifying and recording sea lice stages

Delivery

This is a half-day course delivered at the NAFC Marine Centre, or elsewhere by arrangement.

NOTE: For taught course delivery outside Shetland the lecturer's travel and other expenses will be charged in addition to these fees.
